Fence Staining Requirements

Fence staining is a community-wide requirement intended to keep fencing uniform, protected, and visually consistent throughout Oaks at San Gabriel.

This post explains which fences must be stained, the approved stain that must be used, and how homeowners can obtain it, including use of the HOA’s Sherwin-Williams account.

Is Fence Staining Required?

Yes.
Fence staining is required under the Association’s governing documents.

The requirement applies to street-facing and exterior-facing fencing to ensure a consistent appearance throughout the community.

Which Fences Must Be Stained?

The staining requirement applies to:

  • Street-facing fences

  • Exterior-facing fences, including fencing visible from public streets or common areas

Interior fence sections that are not visible from the street or exterior areas may not fall under this requirement, depending on location.

If you are unsure whether your fence is considered street- or exterior-facing, you may submit a request for clarification.

What Stain Is Required?

The Association has an approved fence stain specified in the governing documents.

✅ Approved Fence Stain

  • Semi-Transparent stain

To remain compliant, homeowners must use this approved stain for applicable fencing.

Using the approved stain helps ensure:

  • Consistent color and finish across the community

  • Easier future maintenance and touch-ups

  • A uniform appearance between neighboring properties

Where to Get the Approved Stain

Who Is Responsible for Fence Staining?
